Alexander Taam

Architectural Designer

LEED GA

Alex’s journey into architecture began with a unique blend of cultural influences and a deep appreciation for the built environment. Growing up in a multicultural household with Chinese and Mexican heritage, he was exposed to a diverse range of architectural styles from a young age, including ancient Mayan and Chinese structures. These early experiences sparked his interest, leading him to participate in home construction projects and join the ACE Mentorship Program, where he found his true calling in architecture.

He pursued his passion at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with a focus on creating spaces that blend sustainability, community, and culture. During his college years, Alex contributed to art installations for professors and gained hands-on experience working with a construction company.

With seven years in the industry, including five at FREIHEIT, Alex’s career has evolved from single-family residential projects to commercial architecture, specializing in restaurant and retail tenant improvements, as well as multifamily and mixed-use developments. He has fallen in love with the problem solving aspect of this profession in addition to how building systems come together to create reliable and well designed structures.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, advocating for inclusivity, experimenting with recipes, tackling DIY projects, and exploring photography through drone flying. His life goals include designing net-zero carbon building that is all inclusive and designing a unique piece of furniture that can produced and made available for purchase.
